10 Skincare Items I Can’t Live Without
10 Skincare Items I Can’t Live Without
Skincare, in simple terms, is as essential to us as cheap beer is to a college frat boy. (Sorry, that was literally the only analogy I could think of, I don’t know why). Anyways, skincare is really important, and many people totally overlook that fact. FOLKS. SKIN IS AN ORGAN, JUST LIKE OUR HEART AND LUNGS AND GALLBLADDERS. In fact, our skin is our bodies’ largest organ, so yeah, take care of it. As young people, we are prone to bad skin- our hormones are raging, stress levels are through the roof (thanks, Trump), and if you’re in college, you’re probably not properly hydrated (alcohol is unforgiving). So hop out of your tanning bed, put down that Smirnoff, because I am here to help!
As you probably know, skincare products can be superrrrr expensive, which is not ideal when you’re a somewhat broke 19 year-old. Obviously, toners and serums and all that jazzy stuff can add up to a hefty price, but luckily for y’all, I don’t use an excessive amount of pricey products- your girl can’t afford that. If you have super acne-prone or troublesome skin, then spending a bit more on really good skincare products would probably be wise, but if you’re on a budget, not to worry! I have here a selection of products that I love, and use daily, and they’re all within a decent price range. You may be broke, stressed, and eating lots of microwavable food, but at least you’ll have glowing skin!

1. St. Ive’s Fresh Skin Face Scrub: $3.64
St. Ive’s is truly a saint. Seriously, their products are amazing, low on chemicals, and insanely affordable. Regardless of your skin type, exfoliating should be an essential part of your skincare routine, it helps get all the dead skin off your face, leaving you feeling fresh and smooth! St. Ive’s also has a bazillion other exfoliators for different skin types. Do note though, you shouldn’t exfoliate too frequently, since it can irritate and inflame the skin if you do so too often, a couple times a week is ideal.
2. Simple Micellar Cleansing Water: $8.99
THIS STUFF IS AMAZING. First of all, it’s makeup removing abilities are insane- it gets alllllll the makeup off, and it doesn’t leave your face feeling oily- and it’s just an amazing cleanser in general. Honestly, I get so lazy with skincare, so if you’re a lazy college gal like me, this is perfect for you.
3. Neutrogena Makeup Removing Towelettes: $6.99
Most of you have probably used these, and they are my absolute favorite makeup wipes. They’re gentle, effective, and great for sensitive skin (most makeup removers cause my face to burn). Honestly, when you’re in college and staying up late, it’s nice to have something that will wipe the shit off of your face without any effort.
If you don’t want to turn into a wrinkly prune before you hit your 40’s, then SPF is your best friend. From my experience, a lot of moisturizers with SPF feel super greasy or sticky, but this one is nice and lightweight. It does have a subtle sunscreen smell though, but it’s not bad.
5. CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion (PM): $8.29
Okay, so you obviously don’t need some special nighttime moisturizer, but it’s a nice luxury to have. Apparently, this moisturizer provides a “release of ingredients to help repair and restore your skin’s protective barrier”, due to some sort of special ingredients. Regardless, CeraVe has really great products in general, and they’re super affordable.
6. Ponds Dry Skin Cream $4.99
Nowadays, the world is filled with fancy schmancy products with flakes of gold, exotic plant extracts, and the DNA of albino mountain goat testicles. I do love a fancy product here and there, but for the most part, it’s super expensive and super unnecessary. Sometimes it’s best to keep it simple, which is why I love a classic product like Ponds Skin Cream. Honestly, your grandmother probably used it, and yet it’s still around, which is probably a good sign. Also, it’s 5 bucks.
7. Skinfood Tea Tree Clearing Toner: $15.00
Having a toner isn’t a total must, but it is definitely beneficial to your skin, which is why I love this product. It smells great, is super refreshing to the skin, and is an essential part of my skincare routine.
8. Juice Beauty Antioxidant Serum: $48.00
This is a pricier product, and sort of a luxury at that, but it’s also something that is absolutely essential to my routine. This serum feels so good on the skin, and it’s packed with antioxidants; treating your skin with vitamins is just as important as filling your body with such. Also, a little bit of this serum goes a long way, so it should last you for a long time.
If you need a nice, refreshing pick-me-up for your skin, then this is the perfect item for you. I received this as a gift for my birthday, and I’ve used it everyday since. I love using this in the morning to wake up my skin, and it’s also nice to carry in your purse or backpack if you’re having a no-makeup day.
10. Mario Badescu Drying Lotion: $17.00
I SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST. This. Product. Is. Amazing. I honestly swear by this, and I’ve gotten so many of my friends hooked on it. It pretty much gets rid of your zits overnight; I’ve never been disappointed by this spot treatment. If you struggle with breakouts or even the occasional pimple, you have to buy this. Take my word for it, you won’t be disappointed.
